Thousands Cross into Spain's Ceuta Enclave

Thousands of people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta, a small Spanish territory on the coast of North Africa. BBC News says the crossing happened very quickly.

About 60,000 people entered Ceuta, according to the report. Spain's government gave a lower number of 50,000. The city is small, so the large number of arrivals put great pressure on local services.

Local media said that at least 57 people died during the surge. Many people later went back to Morocco. Spanish officials said more than 48,000 people had returned by Friday evening.
