Microplastics Detected in Human Brain-Tissue Samples

Scientists found tiny pieces of plastic in samples of human brain tissue. The samples came from people who had died, so the study did not test living people.

The tiny pieces are called microplastics and nanoplastics. The researchers also found them in liver and kidney samples. In this study, the brain samples had more plastic than the other samples. The particles were too small to see without special tools.

This does not prove that plastic makes people ill. Scientists do not yet know what these particles mean for human health. They say more research is needed.
