Russia and North Korea Open First Road Bridge

Russia and North Korea have opened their first proper road bridge. It crosses the Tumen River and connects the border areas of Khasan in Russia and Rason in North Korea. The bridge is about one kilometre long. Russia says up to 300 vehicles can cross each day.

Cargo trucks will use the crossing first. Passenger travel is expected to begin later this year. Leaders from both countries called the bridge a sign of friendship and cooperation. However, Ukrainian group Truth Hounds says it could also become a hidden military logistics route. That claim is not a confirmed description of how the bridge will be used; it is a warning about a possible use.
