Kerala Addresses Elderly Care Crisis

In Kerala, India, many old people live alone. Their children moved away to find jobs. TO Dominic is 70 years old. His two sons left home years ago. One son lives in another state. The other son lives in the Middle East. Dominic and his wife Martha live alone now. They feel lonely.

Kerala has many old people. By 2036, one in four people will be over 60 years old. The government wants to help. They started a new department for elderly people. They want old people to stay in their homes. They will build parks and day-care centers.

Dominic and Martha depend on their neighbors for help. Their sons call them, but they cannot visit often. Martha says they need someone who can actually come and help them.
