Geothermal Energy: The Heat Beneath Our Feet

There is a lot of heat under the ground. Scientists want to use this heat to make electricity. This is called geothermal energy.

New machines can dig very deep holes in the ground. They can reach very hot rocks. Water goes down into these holes. The hot rocks heat the water. Then the hot water comes back up and makes electricity.

One company called Quaise uses special waves to break rocks. These waves are like microwave oven waves. They can melt rocks without using a drill. This makes it easier to dig deep holes. The company wants to start making electricity by 2030.
